VCU Pediatric Imaging Sees Growth
The Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU opens its doors to patients on April 30th.
The $400 million project is the only freestanding children’s hospital in the Richmond area and includes a 16-story Children’s Tower, 72 inpatient beds including 24 in the intensive care unit, 6 operating rooms, and 21 emergency department rooms.
In preparation for the grand opening, we’ve been steadily expanding pediatric imaging capabilities by recruiting staff and installing new equipment to offer a full range of services — plain film, CT, MRI, fluoroscopy and ultrasound.

VCU Department of Radiology attendings, residents and alumni participate in 2023 lobby day.
VCU Department of Radiology attendings, residents and alumni joined the Virginia Radiological Society (VRS) during their annual lobby day on January 31, 2023.
Drs. Mohammad Gharavi, Leila Rezai, Gianna Blundo, Trent Pannell and Jacqueline Urbine (as pictured below L to R) joined 11 other radiologists, including VCU Radiology Alumnus Dr. Scott Conrad from Radiology Associates of Richmond. They went to the General Assembly Building in Richmond, Virginia and walked door-to-door to meet with legislators from both sides of the aisle and discuss important bills that protect patients and providers.
The legislation our radiologists addressed with legislators pertained to protecting providers against threats, expanding funding in the state budget for the Virginia Mental Health Access Program, increasing primary care Medicaid reimbursement, and removing existing questions about mental health on licensure and registration applications.
Radiologists came from VCU, UVA, EVMS, Commonwealth Radiology, Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital, and the Radiology Associates of Richmond to participate in this year’s Radiology Lobby Day.
