Message from Division Chair

Welcome to the Division of Diagnostic Medical Physics at VCU Health. Our team of physicists supports safe, high-quality medical imaging across the health system by working closely with radiologists, technologists, and clinical teams.

We are committed to patient safety, clinical excellence, education, and research. Through collaboration and active engagement in clinical practice, our goal is to ensure medical imaging is used thoughtfully, responsibly, and in direct support of patient care.

Overview

Two male diagnostic medical physicians standing next to medical scannerThe Division of Diagnostic Medical Physics provides physics expertise in support of diagnostic imaging and nuclear medicine across the VCU Health System. Our board-certified medical physicists work throughout the lifecycle of imaging technologies, including system specification and acceptance testing, as well as ongoing quality management, radiation safety, and regulatory and accreditation compliance, to help ensure safe, reliable, and high-quality imaging.

Working in close collaboration with radiologists, technologists, administrators, and clinical teams, the division provides clinical services and consultation in support of patient care. As imaging technologies and clinical practice continue to evolve, the division remains committed to refining and standardizing testing procedures and expanding its role within the clinical environment.

The division also plays an active role in education and research by contributing to the training of medical physics graduate students, resident physicians, medical students, and technologists, and by supporting scholarly activity that advances the science and practice of medical imaging. Through these efforts, the Division of Diagnostic Medical Physics supports the Department of Radiology’s commitment to an Image of Excellence in patient care, education, and research.

Our medical physicists provide clinical physics support for diagnostic imaging and nuclear medicine, including:
